Wasp Paper Wallpaper

2006

Wasp Paper Wallpaper is a visual translation: the found, natural building material of a wasp’s nest, into the human building material of wallpaper. Attracted by the vibrant pinks in this found piece of a wasp nest, I first drew and then tiled it into a repeating pattern to make silkscreened wallpaper. The interior of a wasp’s home converted to a human scale allows us entry into a new world and simultaneously reminds us of parallel industriousness in the natural world. This wallpaper is a conflation of human and animal homes.
